Previously, I shared the seven warrior principles. This is the first in the series diving deeper into each principle starting with wealth. As a brief reminder, the seven principles are Wealth, Awake, Raison d’Etre, Replenish, Invictus, Original, and Reverent.
The warrior believes wealth comes in many forms. It can take the shape of money, assets, health, or human connections. In order to accomplish this principle, warriors are strategic, measured, resourceful, and generous.
Expand Your Definition Of Wealth
The classic definition of wealth is what you have left once you subtract your debts from your assets. Wealth is different from being rich. But for the warrior, wealth has more dimension to it. To the warrior, wealth is having the resources you need to create the life you want. For many, it includes money, which isn’t a bad thing, and it also includes health, family, friends, experiences, peace, and time.
To the warrior, wealth is having the resources you need to create the life you want.
Regardless of how you define wealth, as a warrior you marshal the resources in the right way to help you create a full life experience that brings you joy and harmony. Take a moment to consider what is most important to you and what are the things you’re doing to incorporate them into your life.
But first, I’m going to dispel a myth about wealth.
To Be Of Service, Does Not Mean To Be Broke
When I first started blogging in 2014, I felt weird about wanting to get paid to help people. As I attended various seminars or conferences with amazing speakers, they would openly talk about how they were able to generate wealth by doing something they love and helping others. It took a while for it to sink in that I don’t have to devalue myself in order to help others. In fact, the more money I can generate in my business, the more people I can help.
True. While there are people out there who take advantage of others wearing the disguise of a servant, there are just as many people who are genuine. And I have had my fair share of both. Through those experiences, I’ve learned the red flags.
People feel funny about wanting to get paid for providing a service and, yet, don’t feel funny about expecting to be paid their worth from an employer. This may be rooted in self-limiting beliefs about money – that it’s the root of all evil. But it isn’t. The phrase is the LOVE of money is the root of all evil. Money is energy that passes from buyer to seller. A wealth mindset will attract more money or more opportunity for money.
Your Best Asset To Create The Life You Want Is Between Your Ears
The brain is a highly sophisticated computer that requires simplistic programming. Think of mindset as the coding language for your brain. Shifting your mindset will change the way you speak, which will change the way you act. The life you have is the life you created with your past words and actions.
A broke mindset will always be poor. A losing mindset will never achieve. A fearful mindset will never overcome. There are small shifts that we can make to help us create the life we want. This is the basic principle of manifesting. You must first believe you can do the thing or have the thing. And then you put in the work.
Package Your Expertise!
The brain also houses your expertise and you can use your expertise to power your personal economy. Life is undergoing a major shift right now. The future of work looks very different from the last twenty years. People are trusting themselves more to generate income on their own whether it’s through a side hustle, changing careers, or starting their own business. The fly in the ointment about the great resignation is that people are quitting without a plan because a meme told them to. Don’t do that. There’s another way.
Companies lay people off all of the time, even the happy ones.
Start small, but start. It doesn’t matter what it is. Identify your gift and put it out in the world and ask to be paid. And if you are a willing and happy employee, that’s cool too 😎. I say, stay ready so you don’t have to get ready. Companies lay people off all of the time, even the happy ones.
The Answer To One Of The Top Questions I Receive + A 🎁
One of the questions I receive the most is “how do I get started freelancing or independent consulting”? I had the same question when I suddenly needed a plan B when this happy employee went in search of her bliss. In 2011 I needed to start consulting while I looked for another opportunity and I found I had no clue what to do. Frankly, I didn’t even think I could. The weird thing was, I thought my expertise belonged to my employer. Ugh. 🤦🏽Who does that?
I started consulting and eventually found another opportunity, but I never stopped the side business because I wanted to stay ready and I really liked it. So when 2020 came along, I was ready. I mean not for all of that, but ready to generate income on my own. But as I scrolled through my LinkedIn feed, not everyone was. So I created a free course walking people through how I did it and the mistakes to avoid. The course included some of my swipe files and a list of resources to get things done.
Seeing how 2022 is the rambunctious younger sibling to 2020, I decided to revamp this FREE course and re-launch it. Recently, I decided to bring my course content onto my own site versus hosting it on a third-party site like Thinkific. While I lose some of the bells and whistles, I reduce my costs while still providing a similar experience.
My gift has two purposes. One, to help you on your journey. And, two, to test my new platform. Don’t wait, get started with the Freelance and Consulting Quick Start Mini-Masterclass right now.
Regardless of if you want to generate multiple streams of income or hike Machu Picchu, wealth is what will allow you to create the life you want. You have the tools necessary, you need to believe. And you also need to be prepared for reality to look different from the dream.
To be a warrior is not the exception, it’s the rule. What will you believe yourself for this year?
